Happy Spring

  • We had an enjoyable visit with some family members this last week.
  • Elder Jaster drove to Carthage and brought the metal fence around the Jail back to Nauvoo and painted it. It is a tedious job. One of his greatest fears came true that the equipment he would operate might be a paintbrush, ha!
  • It was a wonderful opportunity to actually be in the Red Brick Store on the 168th anniversary of the organization of the Relief Society. Our mission sisters did the reenactment of the first Relief Society.
  • Elder Jeffrey R. Holland from the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles and his wife visited with us. He told us that because of the tears of faith, the silent yearnings of the heart, devotion, patience, humility, righteousness and faithfulness that Mercy will trump Justice.
  • I worked in the greenhouse this week transplanting seedlings. Our sweet granddaughter had her poem “Little Flowers” published in the March issue of The Friend. Congratulations, Boston! We’re so proud of you. We’re going to hang your poem up in the greenhouse here in Nauvoo so all those little seedlings will know what they have to do to grow.

Little Flowers

Hey little flowers,
Hey little flowers,
Just start growing.
There is nothing to be afraid of.
The sun is shining,
The water is coming,
Soon you will grow
Into a beautiful flower.

Boston G., age 8, Utah

Nauvoo Notes: Apparently it is necessary for us on occasion to be brought to a white-knuckles point of anxiety so as to be reminded, when rescued, of who our Rescuer is. Neal A. Maxwell

  1. Elder Maxwell said it so plainly. And it is so true. Through my battle with anxiety I have felt my Savior in my life more than ever. There is really no where else to turn when battling with oneself. And we come out better than when we started, eventually.:o) Thanks to you mom & dad & family for all the support & strength you are to me & Mike & our family. We have truly been blessed.
That fence has got to be looking pretty shiny by now! And please send some of the seedlings our way--such beautiful flowers this time of year.

  2. Jolene, so excited to see you in your made-to-fit dress along with the other sisters. I'm happy you are doing this blog--brings back memories of our time in Nauvoo three years ago. And, if I ever have the opportunity to see the fence, I'll make mention that it was done with Elder Jaster's loving hands as he stroked the brush. Darling poem written by your granddaughter and the quote by Neal Maxwell was just the icing on the cake. We love you two!!

  3. Although your mission is very different than my mission in Portugal, I think there are some common things. You are forming friendships that will last through the eternities. I'm glad to see you're meeting so many awesome people. You also seem to be experiencing the same feeling of exhaustion after a hard day's work and how the spirit just doesn't leave your side. I'm so glad you're loving your mission!
